PANAJI/VASCO: Congress South Goa Candidate Viriato Fernandes, asserted that Goa was “forced” to adopt the Indian Constitution following its 1961 independence from Portuguese domination.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that the Congress poses a threat to democracy and referred to the remarks as disgusting
Chief Minister Sawant attacked the Congress candidate and his party on social networking site X.
“The remarks made by the Congress candidate for South Goa, who asserts that Goans were forced to adopt the Indian Constitution, horrify me. The belief held by our independence fighters that Goa is an integral part of India was unwavering,” said CM Sawant
Sawant demanded that the opposing party cease its “breaking up” of the country through its politics.
“Congress needs to put an immediate halt to this irresponsible Bharat Todo politics. Our democracy is in danger because of Congress,” the CM continued.
Goa, which has two Lok Sabha seats, will have its third round of voting on May 7.
