PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has raised serious concerns over the rapid depletion and pollution of groundwater in Goa, warning that human activities are the main cause behind the crisis.
Addressing the issue, the CM pointed out that indiscriminate disposal of garbage, sewage, and plastic into rivers, lakes, and other water bodies is contaminating the state’s water sources. “Today, even fish are found to contain plastic,” he highlighted, emphasizing the severity of the problem.
CM Sawant stressed that preventing water pollution is now a critical priority to safeguard public health and the environment. Authorities have been urged to take stricter measures to curb contamination and ensure the protection of Goa’s rivers, lakes, and groundwater reserves.
“Groundwater is not only depleting but also getting polluted due to human activities. Stopping water pollution is the need of the hour,” the CM said.
