PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has warned that strict action will be taken against industries indulging in labour exploitation. He pointed out that while there are ample job opportunities in the state, many people are reluctant to join due to lack of job security.
To address this issue, Sawant urged industries to employ Goan contractors, stating that they are better positioned to provide employment to local youth. “Industries must understand the ground reality. Goan contractors can ensure fair employment practices and help reduce unemployment among locals,” the CM said.
In a major welfare push, the Chief Minister announced that from July 1, the Labour and Construction Welfare Funds will be activated through 16 schemes aimed at benefiting workers in the labour community.
Appealing to the youth, Sawant encouraged them to take initiative and tap into available job opportunities. “Don’t wait for the perfect job. Upskill, reskill and gain experience to avoid long-term unemployment,” he said, underlining the need for proactive engagement and continuous learning.
The state government, he added, remains committed to safeguarding the interests of Goan workers and promoting sustainable employment through skill development and policy reforms.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to youth employment, the Chief Minister highlighted several new skill-based courses launched for young people. Special training programs have also been introduced for students who did not pass their Class X and XII board exams.
Sawant noted the success of the state’s apprenticeship program, under which over 14,000 youth have gained valuable hands-on experience in various sectors.
