PANAJI: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has welcomed the Union Government’s decision to slash excise duty on petrol and diesel, stating that the move reflects the Centre’s commitment to protecting citizens from rising global crude oil prices.
In a statement, Sawant said he “wholeheartedly welcomes the Union Government’s decision, under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, to slash excise duty on petrol from ₹13 to ₹3 per litre and reduce diesel duty from ₹10 to nil.”
He added that the decision comes at a crucial time when global crude oil prices are witnessing volatility due to the conflict in West Asia. According to the Chief Minister, the timely intervention by the Centre will help maintain fuel price stability and provide significant relief to citizens.
Sawant further stated that the reduction will also support Oil Marketing Companies and ease the burden on the common man. He emphasized that the move demonstrates the Government’s continued focus on safeguarding public interest while ensuring economic stability.
“The decision will ensure fuel stability, support Oil Marketing Companies, and provide major relief to the people of the country,” the Chief Minister said.
