Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday welcomed the Union Budget 2026–27, describing it as bold, reform-driven and people-centric, with a clear focus on accelerating India’s journey towards becoming a globally competitive economy.
Speaking after watching the #ViksitBharatBudget along with members of the teaching fraternity and students of Government College, Khandola and Sankhali, the Chief Minister said the Budget reflects the philosophy of “people over populism” while maintaining fiscal prudence alongside growth.
“This Budget strengthens trust in public investment and accelerates India’s transformation into a globally competitive economy,” Sawant said.
He said the historic push in capital expenditure will further energise infrastructure creation, logistics, railways and urban growth. He added that the comprehensive thrust on manufacturing across seven strategic sectors will boost MSMEs, generate employment and strengthen domestic value chains.
Highlighting the launch of India Semiconductor Mission 2.0, the Chief Minister said targeted support for full-stack design, Indian intellectual property and resilient supply chains marks a decisive step towards technological self-reliance.
Sawant also welcomed the ‘Biopharma Shakti’ initiative, expansion of NIPERs, clinical trial networks and medical tourism hubs, stating that these measures will position India as a global hub for affordable, high-quality healthcare and biologic medicines.
He further said the Budget’s focus on coconut-growing states, along with special attention to the Indian cashew and coconut sectors, will strengthen agro-processing, enhance farmers’ income and support coastal economies.
Calling the Budget visionary and futuristic, Sawant said it lays out a clear roadmap for innovation, employment, inclusive growth and a resilient India.
He congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for steering what he termed a transformative Budget that advances the mission of Viksit Bharat.
