PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said Goa has drawn up a comprehensive clean energy roadmap, with the long-term objective of shifting entirely to renewable sources by the year 2050.
The Chief Minister said that as a coastal State, Goa is committed to promoting both green and blue economy initiatives in a balanced and sustainable manner.
Referring to national priorities, Sawant said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has emerged as a credible global force offering solutions, capacity and commitment, particularly in the energy sector. He added that India’s vision of Viksit Bharat is closely linked to the availability of energy that is dependable, affordable and resilient.
The Chief Minister said Goa aligns itself with this national outlook and aims to build a Viksit Goa through sustainable development and future-ready infrastructure. He noted that the State’s clean energy roadmap focuses on a transition to 100 per cent renewable energy by mid-century.
Sawant also highlighted the wider economic impact of hosting India Energy Week, noting that the large-scale international participation and strong industry presence would provide a boost to tourism, support local businesses and generate employment. He said the event would not only foster discussions within conference halls but also create tangible opportunities for the local community, reinforcing Goa’s standing as a global hub for dialogue on green and blue economy development.
He emphasised that Goa believes clean energy growth must go hand in hand with responsible use of marine resources, adding that maintaining this balance will be key to ensuring economic progress while safeguarding the environment.
Delivering the keynote address, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri said India has made consistent and resilient strides towards energy security, self-reliance and climate equity under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. He described India Energy Week as a rapidly growing global platform that brings together governments, industry players, investors and technology providers during a period of significant transition in the global energy landscape.
Puri stressed that the global energy transition should be viewed as one of energy expansion rather than substitution, calling for continued investments across sectors such as oil and gas, biofuels, green hydrogen, LNG and clean cooking fuels. He outlined India’s reform-oriented approach aimed at ensuring energy availability, affordability and sustainability.
He added that the country’s expanding LPG coverage, improved access to clean cooking fuels and diversified energy portfolio demonstrate India’s commitment to inclusive growth and equitable energy access.
