Panaji: The row over alleged bogus voters in Goa has intensified, with the Congress party raising concerns over fraudulent entries in the Panjim Assembly constituency.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar, accompanied by party functionaries, conducted a physical verification at a residence in Dempo Bhat, Tonca. At one apartment, officials found a Goan family residing, but discovered that four Nepali nationals were listed as voters at the same address despite not living there.
Patkar questioned the legality of foreign nationals obtaining Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) and voting in Indian elections without citizenship. He demanded clarity on how such names were included in the voter rolls.
The Congress also pointed to the proximity of the Booth Level Officer (BLO), who lives just 20 metres from the apartment, noting that the irregularity went undetected. Patkar alleged that the lapse could not be dismissed as mere oversight, suggesting possible deliberate manipulation of the voter list.
The GPCC has urged the Election Commission of India to investigate the matter immediately, remove bogus names from the rolls, and take strict action against officials found responsible.
