PANAJI: In a move to address growing concerns over corruption in Goa’s governance, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee has urged the state’s Governor to intervene in a bribery scandal involving a former BJP minister. The request comes after Pandurang Madkaikar, a former Minister and BJP leader, publicly alleged that he was coerced into paying a bribe of ₹2.20 lakh to facilitate his work. This revelation has sparked calls for an immediate and impartial investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The Congress Committee, led by Sunil, Vice President of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, has emphasized the need for a thorough probe under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. They argue that such allegations, if left unchecked, could erode public trust in government institutions and undermine the rule of law. The Committee believes that a fair and independent investigation by the CBI is crucial to uncover the truth and ensure justice.
The allegations highlight the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability in governance. The Congress Committee is pressing for swift action to restore public confidence in the state’s administration. By seeking a CBI investigation, they aim to ensure that those responsible are held accountable and that the integrity of the government is upheld.
