PANAJI: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led state government, accusing it of allowing law and order to collapse under its watch.
Patkar said Goa was “bleeding” under what he termed as BJP’s “Gundaraj,” following a string of violent incidents and the recent seizure of 30 kilograms of ganja in Mapusa.
The Crime Branch on June 10 seized ganja worth over ₹40 lakh from two individuals in Mapusa.
Terming the incident as more than just a “petty peddling case,” Patkar alleged that it pointed to the existence of a large drug cartel thriving due to administrative inaction or complicity.
“From murders in Panaji to sword attacks in Curchorem, assaults in Calangute and kidnappings in Ponda — Goa is no longer safe. Is this still a tourism state or has it become a lawless laboratory under the BJP?” Patkar questioned in a strongly worded press note.
The Congress demanded a high-level, independent probe into the drug trafficking network, involving central agencies like the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
Patkar also called for public accountability from the Chief Minister and the Home Department, and sought immediate suspension of officers who failed to act.
“This is not governance — this is Jungle Raj. When criminals roam freely and the Chief Minister remains silent, it is not incompetence, it is complicity,” Patkar stated, adding that Congress would raise the issue both in the Assembly and on the streets.
The party reiterated its commitment to the people of Goa, stating it would not remain silent as public safety continues to deteriorate.
