PANAJI: In compliance with a Supreme Court directive dated August 11, 2025, the Goa Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services has formed a dedicated task force to address the issue of stray dogs and oversee their rehabilitation in shelter homes.
The three-member task force, constituted as per the instructions of the Minister for Animal Husbandry, will prepare and implement an action plan in consultation with civic bodies.
The committee is headed by Dr. Nitin Naik, Deputy Director (Epid.), Department of AH&VS, Panaji, as Chairman. Dr. Atanazia Fernandes, Assistant Director, Veterinary Hospital Sonsodo, will serve as Member for South Goa District, while Dr. Charlette Fernandes, Assistant Director, Government Poultry Farm, Ela Old Goa, will be the Member for North Goa District.
Officials said the move aims to create a coordinated approach towards managing the stray dog population and ensuring humane rehabilitation measures in the State.
