PORVORIM: Sports Minister Govind Gaude today said that his department would write to the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) in a bid to know the status of the stadium project on the Maulinge land.
“I will write to the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) in a bid to know the status of the stadium project on the Maulinge land,” said Gaude.
He further said that Government had not published the land acquisition notification for the acquisition of land by GCA in Village Panchayat Ona, Maulinguem and Kudchirem to construct an International Cricket Stadium;
“Government has given the land under a lease agreement to GCA, vide Deed of Lease dated 07/09/2018. Cabinet approval was obtained during the XXVIth meeting held on 03/01/2018,” he added.
Gaude said that the lease period is 33 years, and the total land acquisition cost of Sports City Dhargal is Rs. 8,87,04,655/- which includes the Goa Cricket Association lease land.
“The requisite amount was deposited with EDC, and GCA has deposited any amount towards the occupancy of the land,” he added.
The stadium will be the home ground of the Goa Cricket Association. The project is currently suspended due to various problems but was obstructed by corruption and financial troubles. Goa is the only state association that does not own its ground.
The ground will be established in 1.30 lakh square metres with all facilities like a practice stadium, indoor practice area etc. The floor will have floodlights so that stadium can host day-night matches with a capacity of 45,000 persons.
