CANACONA: Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) demolished a house structure with two Rooms for violating CRZ norms on Agonda beach shore in Canacona on Thursday.
South-Goa Demolition Squad carried out the demolition of the structure house situated in survey no. 118/8 in the presence of Canacona Mamlatdar Jeetendra Bugde, Agonda Panchayat Secretary Amol Naikgaunkar, A Field Surveyor (representative of GCZMA), A LDC from Dy. Collector & SDO and a strong pose of police personnel.
GCZMA is an order to Dy. Collector & SDO, Canacona has directed to execute the demolition order within one month and submit compliance. GCZMA has cited its previous orders and also the dismissal of an appeal by Respondent Hevona Fernandes before the NGT against the impugned order to carry out the demolition.
According to sources, a demolition sword was hanging on the structure for the last 7 years. even as stay orders were obtained by the respondent delayed the actual demolition taken up on Thursday.
Mrs Hevona Fernandes who was at the site informed the media that her house existing years before 1991 was repaired in 2001, availed electricity connection and regularly paid house tax to the panchayat. A mundkarial case is pending before Panchayat Addtl. Director(Margao) and also Dy. Collector (Canacona). The cases were heard even yesterday (13-06-2024) and the next hearing is fixed for the 28th of this month. But, still, when the matter is pending with the government authorities, the same government is demolishing my house today.
Incidentally, According to sources, after learning about the upcoming demolition, the family removed the root tiles from the houses to avoid damage.
The demolition quad had to engage a breaker to break the strong laterite stone walls after some part of the walls were physically brought down with pickaxe and other cutting and breaking materials.
