PONDA: With the rising number of cases of FMD, former Chairman of Goa Dairy Anup Desai today alerted the Goa Dairy Farmers to take preventive measures for treatment against foot and mouse disease (FMD), which are reported in some parts of Sanguem.
He said that infectious disease among cattle is not new, but it spreads rapidly and proves fatal if neglected.
He feared that if measures were not taken, it could spread rapidly among cattles all over Goa.
Desai said the Technical Group of Farmers on WhatsApp has started giving alert messages.
He said when a doctor treats such cattle in one cow shed and goes to others, there are chances of spreading to another cattle.
He said every year at the start of September month there is pre-vaccination to cattle is held to prevent FMD by Goa Government under the scheme of Central Government.
However, this year it has not begun yet, and the farmers have alerted Government on this; however, there is no response from Government on pre-vaccination.
He said Government should immediately start this to prevent the spread of FMD. He also requested farmers to adopt traditional methods to avoid as well as treat the FMD.
