PANAJI: After facing over six crore loss in 2019-20, Goa Dairy incurred profit to the tune of Rs 1.50 cr in the last financial year.
“As per the audited statements for Financial Year 2019-20, the Milk Union is in loss to the tune of Rs.6.41 Crores. The Unaudited audit profit of F.Y. 2020-21 is approximately 1.50 Crore,” said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
Goa Dairy informed that the average milk production from April 2020 to February 2021 is 53,350 litres per day.
“As per ICMR standard, per day/ person requirement of milk consumption is 300 gm. However, the daily average per-capita consumption in India is about 216 gms per day. The population of Goa is about 14.59 Lakhs. Therefore the total milk required for consumption in Goa is about 3.15 lakh litres/day,” said CM.
He further said that Goa Dairy produces about 53350 litres/ day. Hence the remaining requirement of about 2.6 lakh litres /day is met by various other brands like Amul, Nandini, Nestle, Shrikrishna, Aarokya.
He added, “Hence the sale of Goa dairy milk is not affected due to arrival of other milk brands,”
Goa Dairy is presently working on a project to increase milk production and processing capacity in the State.
According to the report, Goa Dairy has suffered a total net loss of Rs 6. 41 crores, including a loss incurred by its cattle, feed plant at Usgao (Rs 4. 5 crores) and the ice-cream unit (Rs 19 lakh) for the financial year 2019-20.
In 2018-19, the dairy made a total profit of Rs 2.60 cr, including Rs 1.86 crore by its cattle feed plant. However, the ice cream plant incurred a loss of Rs 8 lakh.
The report mentioned that the high cost of operations resulted in a loss of Rs 6.41 crore.
