Panaji: Goa continued their fine form in the Men’s Under-23 State A Trophy Elite One-Day Tournament, defeating Assam by three wickets with 67 balls remaining on Tuesday at Kotambi Stadium B in Vadodara.
After winning the toss, Goa opted to bowl first and successfully restricted Assam to 215 runs in 42.4 overs. Roshan Topno led Assam’s batting with a well-compiled 53, while Mayukh Hazarika (37), Sumit Kashyap (32), and Rohit Sen (31) provided valuable support. Goa’s bowling attack was spearheaded by Anuj Yadav, who delivered a match-winning spell of 4 for 22. Kutbudin Jamadar chipped in with 3 for 26, while Lakhmesh Pawne, Kaustubh Pingulkar, and Manish Kakode took a wicket each.
Chasing 216, Goa’s innings was anchored by a superb 102-run stand for the second wicket between Sanath Nevagi and Chittem Jeevankumar. Sanath continued his impressive form, scoring a quickfire 85 off 63 deliveries, featuring nine fours and five sixes, narrowly missing out on another century after falling in the nineties in the previous match. Jeevankumar played a steady yet impactful knock of 71 from 90 balls, hitting six boundaries and two sixes.
Although Goa lost a few wickets in the middle overs, the lower order ensured there were no further hiccups. Shivendra Bhujbal remained unbeaten on 14 alongside Anuj Yadav, who was not out on 2, guiding the team home at 216 for 7 in 38.5 overs.
With this victory, Goa, placed in Elite Group ‘B’, moved to four points from two matches. They will next face Gujarat at the Motibaug Ground in Vadodara on Thursday, November 13, aiming to build further momentum in their campaign.
