PANAJI: Some electricity consumers in Goa have recently received bills for periods longer than the standard 30-day cycle, with some spanning up to 45 days.
Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar clarified that this was primarily due to billing staff being assigned other departmental duties, such as BLO/SIR work, and initial challenges in adapting to the new Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) billing pattern introduced from 1st October 2025.
“The longer billing cycle does not result in higher charges or slab crossing, as all bills are calculated on a pro-rata basis, adjusted to a 30-day period. For consumers facing financial difficulties, part-payment options are available,” Dhavalikar said.
To enhance transparency and ensure fair billing, the department has begun installing smart meters across the state, giving consumers real-time access to their electricity usage and billing information.
Minister Dhavalikar emphasized that these steps are aimed at providing accurate, fair, and transparent billing for all consumers in Goa.
