PANAJI: The Electricity Department of the Government of Goa has directed all power consumers to relocate their electricity meters to easily accessible locations by November 28, 2025, in compliance with the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) Supply Code, 2018.
In a public notice issued by the Chief Electrical Engineer, the department stated that meters located inside consumer premises and inaccessible to meter readers must be shifted to locations that allow easy access for monthly energy readings and maintenance.
Consumers have been advised to identify suitable spots within their premises where meters can be installed without exposure to adverse weather conditions. They must also immediately contact their respective sub-division offices, details of which are mentioned in the electricity bill, to initiate the shifting process.
The notice further warned that failure to relocate the meter could result in disconnection of power supply. If the connection is permanently disconnected, it cannot be restored, and consumers will have to apply for a fresh connection after completing all formalities.
The department emphasized that the move is aimed at ensuring accurate billing based on actual meter readings and facilitating timely maintenance without inconveniencing consumers.
