Panaji: The Goa Entertainment Association (GEA) has expressed strong support for the proposal tabled by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai during the Assembly session, seeking to extend the permissible time for music performances in the state to 1 a.m.
In an official statement, GEA President Herschel Mascarenhas welcomed the motion, praising the backing of several other legislators, including Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Nilesh Cabral, Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferreira, and Michael Lobo, for raising the issue.
Calling the proposal a “significant and positive step” for Goa’s entertainment and tourism sectors, the association noted that aligning Goa’s regulations with cities like Bangalore would level the playing field for local businesses and enhance the state’s appeal as a nightlife destination.
Currently, music performances are restricted to 10 p.m., a limitation the association says has hampered economic opportunities. “Extending operational hours can boost economic activity, create employment, and generate additional revenue for the state,” the statement said.
The GEA also welcomed recent remarks by Minister Alex Sequeira, who indicated the government is considering filing a review petition in the Supreme Court regarding its order on sound pollution. The association called this a “proactive stance” and pledged its support, including offering data to assist in the legal process.
Further, the GEA extended its gratitude to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for his continued support. “The Chief Minister’s assurance to follow up on the critical matter of sound restrictions demonstrates his commitment to the growth and prosperity of Goa,” the statement added.
The association reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the government and other stakeholders in finding a balanced solution that supports both peace and economic development.
