PANAJI: Goa went down by six wickets to Gujarat in their third match of the Men’s Under-23 State ‘A’ Trophy Elite One-Day Tournament at the Motibaugh Cricket Ground in Vadodara. The contest saw moments of resilience from Goa, but a commanding century from Gujarat’s captain ultimately decided the outcome.
Batting first after being put in, Goa put up 186 runs in 47.2 overs. The innings featured a steady third-wicket stand worth 55 runs, built through the composed efforts of opener Veer Yadav, who top-scored with 47, and Chittem Jeevankumar, who added 40. Aryan Narvekar contributed 32 in the middle order to keep the scoreboard moving. Gujarat’s attack maintained control throughout, with Bhavya Chauhan leading the way by taking three wickets.
Chasing 187 for victory, Gujarat were powered by an exceptional knock from skipper Ahan Poddar. His unbeaten 106 off 91 deliveries, highlighted by 17 fours and a six, anchored the innings and steered the team to the target with ease. Gujarat wrapped up the chase in 34.4 overs with six wickets in hand. Goa’s bowlers shared the breakthroughs, with Vinayak Kunte, Kutbudin Jamadar, Anuj Yadav and Chittem Jeevankumar each claiming one wicket.
This match marked Goa’s third appearance in the competition. After an opening-round setback, the team regained rhythm with a strong win over Assam, placing them on four points from three games and keeping them well in contention in Group B. Goa will aim to regroup and return to winning ways when they face Jharkhand on Saturday, November 15, at the GSFC Cricket Ground in Vadodara.
Despite the loss, Goa’s young squad showed determination and will look to build on their positive phases as the tournament progresses.
