MARGAO: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Goa has taken strict action against a food business operator (FBO) in Margao for persistent non-compliance with food safety regulations, ordering an immediate halt to all food-related operations at the premises.
The enforcement followed a reverification inspection conducted on June 5, 2025, at a unit located on Old Station Road, Margao. This inspection was prompted by a failure to address issues flagged during an earlier visit on April 28, 2025, when FDA officials documented 30 deficiencies posing potential risks to public health.
Despite being served with an inspection report and a show cause notice, the FBO failed to submit a compliance report or rectify the majority of the issues. Upon the latest inspection, it was found that only 5 out of the 30 deficiencies had been addressed.
In view of the continued non-compliance and disregard for food safety protocols, the FDA proceeded to compound the offence under Section 56 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, though the fine remains unpaid as of this report.
Citing public health concerns, FDA officials issued immediate directions to cease all food-related activities at the establishment and demanded full compliance before any operations could resume.
The inspection and enforcement were led by Designated Officer Sanjyot Kudalkar (South Goa), along with Food Safety Officers Atul Dessai, Amardeep Gaude Priolkar and Pradiksha Chopdekar.
The FDA reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all food businesses in Goa maintain safe, hygienic, and legally compliant practices, and urged the public to remain vigilant and report unsafe food practices.
