PANAJI: The Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has informed that the Central Government has prohibited the manufacture sale, sale or distribution for human use of 156 drug Fixed-Dose Combination (FDCs).
This prohibition has been imposed pursuant to the recommendation of the Expert Committee and Drugs Technical Advisory Board for the reason that these FDCs have no therapeutic justification.
In view of this, all the drug retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, government hospitals, District Hospitals, Urban Health Centres, Community Health Centres, Primary Health Centres, Dispensaries under the Directorate of Health Services, Goa Medical College and Hospital, Goa Nursing Homes, Hospitals, Goa Medical Council, Indian Medical Association as well as the Registered Medical Practitioners (RMPs) across the State are hereby informed to take note of the ban on FDCs.
The list of banned FDCs is uploaded on www.goa.gov.in.
All the RMPs, doctors, and physicians are advised to ensure that no prescriptions are issued for these drugs in the interest of patient safety and all the retailers and wholesalers are advised to exercise extreme care and caution not to dispense or distribute these banned drugs.
Drug retailers, wholesalers, hospitals, Dispensaries, and clinics are advised to identify these drugs at their premises remove the same from their shelves and return back to their respective suppliers under intimation to the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration.
Any deviation or non-compliance with this banned drugs notification shall attract severe penal action under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
