PANAJI: On the occasion of National Fire Service Day 2025, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant lauded the exceptional performance of the Fire & Emergency Services (FES) in the state, revealing that the department had saved property worth over ₹44 crore and 398 lives over the past year.
Speaking at an event commemorating the day, the Chief Minister highlighted Goa’s pioneering role in disaster preparedness, stating that it is the first state in the country to have 11 cyclone shelters. “This is a major milestone in our commitment to safeguarding lives and property,” Sawant said.
In a key announcement, CM Sawant declared that the state government will provide Fire Risk Allowance to firefighters in recognition of their service and the inherent risks associated with their duties.
“Our firefighters are the unsung heroes who put their lives on the line every day. This allowance is a token of our gratitude and a step towards improving their welfare,” he said.
CM Sawant also made a strong appeal to the industrial sector, urging all industries operating in Goa to strictly implement fire safety measures and follow all norms and regulations set by the Fire & Emergency Services. “We must learn from past incidents and adopt a preventive approach. Adherence to safety protocols is not optional—it is essential,” he said.
The National Fire Service Day is observed annually on April 14 to pay tribute to firefighters across India and raise public awareness on fire safety.
