PANAJI: Finally… Director General of Police Jaspal Singh has been transferred to Delhi after getting embroiled in a controversy surrounding the partial demolition of a house in Assagao.
Alok Kumar IPS is all set to take over the additional charge as DGP. The government, had already briefed the ministry of home affairs about the developments vis-à-vis the Assagao house episode.
Following his two-year term as DGP, senior police officials have stated that Jaspal Singh’s transfer is anticipated.
The DGP is in hot water after suspended Anjuna police station in-charge Prashal Naik Dessai accused the top cop of pressuring and threatening him for not allowing the Assagao house to be demolished in a report submitted to the Chief Secretary.
After looking into the matter, the Chief Secretary suspended Dessai and two police sub-inspectors, Sanket Pokhre and Nitin Naik, for neglecting their duties.
Pooja Sharma, the homeowner and one of the accused in the case, has reportedly received a new summons from the police, and it is anticipated that she will appear before the crime branch.
A separate FIR for forgery and cheating has been filed by the crime branch investigating the house demolition and kidnapping case.
This is because it was discovered that the documents were forged and that one of the vehicles seized from an accused person had a false vehicle registration number.
On June 26, the Assagao case was moved to the criminal division. Six more accused were detained by the crime branch after it took over the case, while two had already been arrested by the Anjuna police.
The crime branch assembled a four-person special investigation team to look into the matter.
Following this, the police expanded the case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) by nine sections, including criminal conspiracy, rioting, and intent to outrage modesty.
