SHIRODA: The Goa Forward Party (GFP) has kicked off preparations for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections, with leaders rallying workers in Shiroda to take the party’s message to every household and expose what they called the BJP government’s “false promises and betrayals.”
At a Shiroda Block Committee meeting held at Panchwadi, GFP General Secretary (Organisation) Durgadas Kamat urged party workers to go door-to-door and inform people how the BJP had misled Goans with unfulfilled assurances.
“Whether it was the promise of three free gas cylinders, free water, or now the hike in power tariff which will touch 34.23% by 2030 — the BJP has betrayed the common man,” Kamat said, stressing that Vijai Sardesai’s vision must reach the grassroots.
GFP Vice President Akbar Mulla called on party members to unite to defeat the BJP, pointing to the recent Goa Cricket Association (GCA) elections where an independent panel triumphed over a BJP-backed one.
“Despite the use of money and muscle power, the clubs showed that people’s unity can overcome political manipulation. In 2027, BJP must be defeated to form a people’s government,” Mulla declared.
Block President Vishant Gaonkar lauded GFP chief Vijai Sardesai for his unwavering commitment to Panchwadi’s development. “Vijai bab never said no to any work whenever we approached him. His continuous support has benefited the people of Panchwadi immensely,” Gaonkar said.
The meeting, attended by former Panchayat members and Goa Forward Shiroda office bearers, ended with a unanimous resolution to back the candidate nominated by Vijai Sardesai for the forthcoming Zilla Panchayat polls.
