PANAJI: Leaders of the Goa Forward Party on Tuesday outlined their strategy ahead of the Ponda by-election, reiterating support for the Congress as part of the pre-poll understanding and stressing efforts to strengthen the party’s organisation across the state.
Party leader Durgadas Kamat said that in line with the pre-poll alliance with the Indian National Congress, the Goa Forward Party has decided not to field a candidate for the Ponda by-election.
He said the focus would be on united efforts to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party. Kamat also announced a public meeting on May 30 at Lohia Maidan to mark 10 years of the party.
Meanwhile, party leader Prashant Naik said the party will focus on strengthening its organisation across Goa.
He added that both the party and its president Vijai Sardesai have support from across the state, and efforts will continue to build strength and emerge as a stronger political force.
Senior leader Mohandas Lolienkar said the real opposition in Goa is the Goa Forward Party. He stated that Sardesai has taken up various issues from across the state and that many people view him as the opposition leader despite not being the official Leader of Opposition.
