PANAJI: The Goa Forward Party (GFP) has reaffirmed its support for the people’s movement “Goa Against Gundaraj”, calling for swift and transparent justice in the brutal attack on social activist Rama Kankonkar.
Describing the attack as not merely an assault on an individual but on every Goan who stands for truth and democracy, the party warned that such acts highlight the growing criminalisation of politics in the state.
“The attack on Rama Kankonkar is a grim reminder that the foundations of our society are under threat,” a GFP spokesperson said.
The party raised serious concerns over lapses in the investigation, citing new evidence that has yet to be examined by the Goa Police. The spokesperson criticised these omissions, stating that they fuel the perception that the probe is inadequate and biased.
The Goa Forward Party has demanded that the Goa Police conduct a comprehensive, fearless, and transparent investigation into the attempted murder of Kankonkar. “Goans will not tolerate half-hearted measures or investigations designed to protect the guilty. Anything less than a full and impartial inquiry will be seen as a betrayal of justice and a blow to democracy in Goa,” the party statement said.
The party also called on all Goans to unite in opposition to such lawlessness, urging citizens to send a strong message: “Enough is enough – no more gundaraj in Goa.”
