Panaji: A day after Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant announced compensation for paddy farmers under the Shetkari Aadhar Nidhi scheme, Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai and Revolutionary Goans Party President Manoj Parab jointly claimed the decision came in response to their collective pressure on the government to support rain-affected farmers.
In a strongly worded statement, the two leaders said the government’s move was “not a favour but a rightful due” to the farmers whose crops were destroyed by unseasonal rains across Goa. They said that while the state machinery was busy “hosting events and announcing vote-bank schemes,” farmers were left watching their fields go under water without assistance.
Sardesai and Parab said their sustained campaign and the call for a Majhe Xett scheme compelled the government to finally act. They described the Chief Minister’s announcement as a “positive step forward”, but warned that it would only matter if the compensation was implemented transparently and promptly.
“The aid must reach farmers quickly and without harassment—free from paperwork hurdles and political bias,” they stated, adding that the government must also ensure fair evaluation of losses across all affected talukas.
Reaffirming their joint stand, the leaders said, “Goa’s farmers feed Goa. They deserve respect, support, and protection—not neglect.”
They reiterated their commitment to continue working together to safeguard the interests of Goa, Goans, and Goan livelihoods.
