Panaji: The Goa Foundation has raised objection to sale and movement of ore excavated prior to 2007.
In a letter to Director, Department of Mines and Technology, Dr Claude Alvares states, “We have been informed by our sources in mining circles that the Department has commenced accepting royalties on ore allegedly claimed by parties (not part of 88 mining leases) because it was extracted by them prior to 21.11.2007.”
Further, the letter said “In this connection, we are drawing your attention to the Supreme Court’s judgement in the Bandekar case, where similar claim was made that the ore belonged to Bandekars as it had been excavated by them prior to 21.11.2007. Supreme Court showed them the door.
He further said that he hopes better sense will prevail and the department will take action in this regard.
