PANAJI: Goa’s U-14 boys and girls shone on the second day of the 10th Mini U-14 National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship at Karnail Singh Stadium, with the girls storming into the semi-finals and the boys advancing to the pre-quarterfinals.
The boys put up two strong performances. In their first match against Lakshadweep, Goa restricted the opposition to 20 for 2 in 6 overs, with Naitik Kannur and Prathmesh Naik striking early. Chasing a modest target, Goa reached 21 for 1 in just 3 overs, with Naitik and Satvir Shirodkar remaining unbeaten to secure a 7-wicket win. In their next outing, Goa posted 45 for 1 in 6 overs thanks to contributions from Naitik, Anish Yadav and Aayan Mahapule. Their bowlers then bowled out Haryana for just 19 in 4 overs, as Vedant Gawas picked up two wickets while Aayan, Naitik and Aaryan Mungaokar took one each, sealing a comprehensive 26-run victory.
The girls, meanwhile, were dominant across all three fixtures. Against Delhi, they restricted their opponents to 24 for 5 with Sonam Velip impressing with two wickets. Goa chased down the target with ease in 2.3 overs as Shreesha Chodankar and Sejal Muli guided the side to an 8-wicket win. They followed it up with another convincing performance against Kerala, bowling them out for 18 with Avishka Naik grabbing two wickets. Shreesha once again anchored the chase as Goa reached 19 in 3 overs to register a 6-wicket win. In their third match, Goa posted 38 in 6 overs through Sejal and Avishka’s steady knocks, before restricting Mumbai to 21 for 4, with Shreesha, Avishka and Vaibhavi Komarpant sharing the spoils, to claim an 18-run win.
With these results, the Goa girls marched into the semi-finals unbeaten, while the boys booked their place in the pre-quarterfinals, keeping alive hopes of further success in the championship.
