Panaji: In a significant move to enhance the skills and employability of Goan youth, the Government of Goa formalized its partnership with Laghu Udyog Bharati, Goa Chapter, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The announcement, made today by the Director of Higher Education, Shri Bhushan Savoikar, during a press briefing at the Directorate of Higher Education in Porvorim, highlighted the introduction of four new employment-oriented degree courses at SSA Government College of Commerce and Arts, Pernem. Admissions for these programs will open on April 11, 2025, via the E-Samar portal.
Savoikar emphasized the strategic importance of this collaboration, stating that the courses, paired with industry partnerships, aim to equip students with the knowledge and practical experience required to excel in the 21st-century workforce. The new academic offerings will commence in the 2025–2026 academic year and complement the college’s existing programs, such as B.Com, BA, postgraduate courses in Commerce and Marathi, and its research centres.
Prof. Juao Costa, Principal of SSA Government College, elaborated on the scope of the MoU, underscoring its role in fostering academic-industry connections. “This partnership will provide students with structured internship opportunities, real-world project exposure, case studies, and industry mentorship. The curriculum has been meticulously aligned with the needs of local industries to ensure high employability of graduates,” he explained.
Among the newly introduced courses are Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Biotechnology, Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Psychology, and Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Sports and Exercise Science. According to Dr. Harsha Talaulikar, in charge of the BBA program, these degrees have been designed to address the requirements of the modern economy, incorporating both academic rigor and practical training.
Smt. Pallavi Salgaonkar, President of Laghu Udyog Bharati, Goa Chapter, highlighted the broader impact of the MoU, describing it as a pivotal step in bridging the gap between academia and industry. “This initiative ensures that students gain the practical knowledge and skills needed to thrive in their careers,” she remarked.
Various other officials, including IOAC Coordinator Dr. Lucy James, and program in-charges like Ms. Anjali Pande (B.Sc. Psychology) and Dr. Pankaj Parab (B.Sc. Biotechnology), were present during the event to endorse the collaboration. Their collective vision is to create a dynamic ecosystem where education and industry coalesce to foster progressive learning opportunities for Goan students.
