PANAJI: It is rightly said that service to humanity is service to God. Being a human, it is our bounden duty to help those people who are in agony and living in misery stated Governor, P.S. Sreedharan Pillai while speaking after distributing financial assistance to cancer and dialysis patients at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan.
The Governor extended financial assistance from his discretionary fund. He handed over cheques of financial assistance of Rs. 25000/- each to 37 beneficiaries on the occasion.
The Governor further said during his tenure as Governor of Goa, he has moved to every village of Goa and during his visits he met people who are suffering from illnesses like cancer and diabetes. He found these people are going under severe treatment and often require assistance. The Governor said that the amount of assistance given is meagre but hope that it will help in meeting their treatment expenses. He advised the beneficiaries to keep their confidence and morale strong in order to overcome their illness.
Appreciating charity organizations for serving the cause of humanity, the Governor also said that the various charity organizations from all over the State have been given an amount of Rs one lakh financial assistance from the discretionary fund of Raj Bhavan.
The Secretary to Governor, M.R.M Rao, IAS while speaking said that the present Governor, Shri Pillai has travelled across Goa and has paid visits to charity homes. During his visits, he has interacted with the common men, even people in rehabilitation centres which show his concern towards humanity. The financial assistance which has been provided today is from the Governor’s discretionary fund, he added.
Addl. Secretary to Governor Shri Sanjiv Gauns Desai, relatives of beneficiaries, staff of Raj Bhavan were among those who attended the program.
