PANAJI: Governor, P.S. Sreedharan Pillai felicitated Dr. Prakash Parienkar for being awarded the prestigious “Sahitya Akademi Award” for his story collection “Varsal” the Konkani book with a traditional Shawl and a memento at a function organised at Raj Bhavan today.
Addressing the audience, Governor, Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, appealing to elevate the culture of society, said through literature and culture one can convey an accurate message to the government and other parts of the country. Through literature writers are contributing permanent investment for the society, the Governor added.
The Governor said language and art are considered important factors in maintaining the unity of the country. Society should give more importance to such occasions. This will boost the morale of the budding writers apart from providing inspiration for the students community, he added.
Speaking on the contents of the book “Varsal” the Governor said the writer has highlighted the concerns of the villagers through short stories. His stories are mainly focussed on downtrodden people and the sufferings of the people in villages which is ultimately the reason behind his success, the Governor concluded.
Addressing the public Art and Culture Minister, Shri Govind Gaude said, I always consider Dr Paryenkar’s literature as the voice of suppressed people. Dr Paryekar’s art of writing mostly focuses on subjects like biodiversity, rural education and folklore, he pointed out.
Damodar Mauzo, Jnanpith Award Winner, Harilal Menon, Vice Chancellor, Goa University, and Dr. Prakash Parienkar, Award Winner also spoke on the occasion.
M. R. M. Rao, IAS, Secretary to Governor welcomed the guests while Vishram Borkar, ADC to Governor proposed vote of thanks.
