PANAJI: Department of Archaeology has once again started the procedure to notify fort Betul as Protected Monument along with other sites.
“Department of Archaeology has once again started the procedure to notify fort Betul as Protected Monument along with other sites. Administrative approval is obtained for the same,” said Minister for Archaeology Subhash Phal Dessai
He further said that the Department of Archaeology conducted two meetings with the Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Government of India for reconsidering the proposal to declare Betul Fort as a Protected Monument.
Phal Dessai also informed that owner of the land i.e., Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Government of India objected the proposal by stating that the land is handed over to the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi for Central Government project.
Also, Ida Noronha the land owner of a smaller portion of the proposed land for notification, submitted objection to said notification.
“The Department carries out minor Repairs / Restoration and Vegetation Clearance works from time to time. The Cabo De Ram Fort requires Restoration and in this regards the Department plans to undertake condition Mapping of the Fort for Restoration,” he added
Minister also informed that the Department undertakes surveys and explorations in respect of the Protected Monuments / Sites. There is no proposal for study of Cabo-DeRama and Betul Fort as of now.
“The Department undertakes surveys and explorations in respect of the Protected Monuments / Sites. No list is drawn till date specifically pertaining to Temples, Ghumties, Churches, Mosques and other religious structures that are more than 100 years old in all Villages in Quepem Taluka and Cola Village in Canacona,’ he added
