PANAJI: Goa government has hiked Valued Added Tax (VAT) on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) from 8 per cent to 15 per cent per kilo-litre.
Pranab Bhat, Under Secretary of Finance, has released a notification in this regard. The government claims that Goa has the lowest ATF VAT in all of India, even with the increase.
Prior to the opening of Mopa airport last year, the government reduced the value-added tax (VAT) on ATF from 18% to 8% per kilogram.
Information indicates that most aircraft prefer Mopa, with only a small number choosing to refuel at the Dabolim international airport.
It remains to be seen what effect the government’s most recent decision will have. It will also be fascinating to observe if the airlines decide to transfer the cost to their customers.
ATF price is revised on the 1st of every month based on the average rate of international benchmark and foreign exchange rates.
