PANAJI: In light of prevailing security concerns along Indian borders, the Goa government has issued an advisory for all fishermen in the state to ensure enhanced safety and security measures. The guidelines aim to maintain vigilant surveillance along the coastline and ensure that fishing activities are conducted in compliance with necessary protocols. Fishermen have been advised to conduct their activities strictly within the state’s territorial waters, which extend up to 12 nautical miles from the shore. Additionally, all fishing vessel owners are instructed to provide complete details of their crew members to the Fisheries Officer or Fisheries Surveyor in their respective areas before venturing out to sea. It is also mandatory for fishermen to obtain a fishing pass before heading out and to report back to the concerned authorities upon their return.
The advisory further requires that transponders on fishing vessels remain switched on while at sea, allowing for continuous tracking to ensure safety. Fishermen are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity observed around fishing jetties or blocks to the nearest Fisheries Officer, Fisheries Surveyor, Coastal Police Station, or local Police Station. In line with these security measures, the government has emphasized the importance of cooperation between the fishing community and department officers to ensure effective enforcement of safety and security protocols.
