PANAJI: In a significant move to prioritize local candidates, the Department of Posts has approved amendments to the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment conditions for Goa, making proficiency in Konkani a mandatory requirement for applicants. The update was shared today by Shri Ramesh Patil, Director, Postal Services, Goa Region, during a meeting with the Chief Minister.
Under the revised policy, both Konkani and Marathi have been officially recognized as local languages for recruitment. Candidates who have studied in either language up to the 10th standard will now be eligible. However, candidates proficient in Marathi will also need to demonstrate proficiency in Konkani.
Commenting on the reform, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said,
“This important step ensures that Goenkars are given priority in postal recruitment. It will create more employment opportunities for our local youth while strengthening postal service delivery across Goa. We remain committed to empowering our people and preserving our local language and culture.”
Officials noted that the move is expected to benefit local youth, enhance efficiency in postal services, and reinforce the role of Konkani in government employment.
