PANAJI: Chief Minister
Pramod Sawant on Tuesday announced that the State government will begin the process of regularising homes of Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities that have been built on revenue land.
Speaking to a delegation led by Social Welfare Minister Subhash Faldesai, the Chief Minister also revealed that a renewed proposal has been submitted to the Registrar General of India (RGI) seeking tribal status for the Dhangar (Gavali Dhangar) community. He assured that the State is actively following up on the proposal.
Sawant chaired a high-level meeting with members of the Dhangar community to discuss key concerns, including housing and forest rights. Advocate General Devidas Pangam and former Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar were also present.
Sawant told media persons after the meeting that a majority of Dhangar homes—around 90%—are situated on revenue land and have been occupied for over six decades. “We have asked them to submit the necessary documents. The government is committed to regularising these homes,” he said.
