PORVORIM: The Goa Green Brigade has urged PWD Minister Digambar Kamat to protect a heritage Banyan tree, estimated to be over 100 years old, located along the Airport Road at Dabolim.
The tree is under threat of removal to make way for the proposed flyover construction in the area. Highlighting its ecological and cultural significance, the group appealed to the minister to ensure the tree is preserved as part of Goa’s natural heritage.
Responding to the appeal, Minister Digambar Kamat assured that he would personally visit the site to review the tree’s condition. “If the tree can be saved, we will definitely save it,” Kamat said, offering hope to environmentalists and locals concerned about the loss.
The development comes at a time when activists and citizens across Goa are increasingly vocal about balancing infrastructure needs with environmental preservation.
