PANAJI: The Special Court established under the POCSO Act dismissed the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit’s assertion that a businessman was the victim of a honey trap and proceeded to charge him with rape.
However, the Bombay High Court in Goa overturned this ruling. The accused, who is now regarded as a victim, may now file a counter-complaint against the initial complainant since the Bench has instructed the trial court to reexamine the B-summary report that was submitted by the investigating agency.
Anant Tanna is the subject of this case; he was first accused of raping a model from Kutch while on vacation in Goa in 2022.
Although he was the subject of a chargesheet as well, the police took a different approach after receiving a similar complaint. Subsequently, the accused claimed that he was duped by honey trapping.
The police’s request to reopen the investigation was granted by the Special Court last year in response to information that suggested Tanna might be the victim of a sextortion and honeytrap.
The investigating team had begged to “ignore” the chargesheet that had already been filed and had instead filed a second chargesheet that included the fresh information.
But the POCSO Court dismissed the B-summary report during the February 15 hearing, saying it was a good enough basis to bring rape charges against him.
