PANAJI: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering safe, efficient, and patient-centric healthcare to all citizens in Goa. To raise standards across public health facilities, the state has rolled out the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) Programme under the National Health Mission (NHM), led by the Directorate of Health Services, Panaji. This initiative introduces a systematic, evidence-based approach to improving healthcare quality, including setting up facility-level Quality Teams trained in assessment methods and implementation strategies.
These teams conduct regular meetings, baseline and quarterly assessments, gap analyses, and targeted improvements with a focus on patient satisfaction scores, quality policies, work instructions, and service delivery standards. Facilities scoring over 70% in internal assessments qualify for State-level certification before undergoing national evaluation by empanelled experts. Final certification is granted by the NHSRC based on detailed reports, ensuring transparency and quality control. The programme in Goa is being driven by a dedicated team comprising Dr. Ujjwala Prabhudessai, Dr. Siddhi Ghatwal, Dr. Rashmi Borker, Dr. Nadine Mesquita, and Ms. Nikita Sequeira, as the state works to set new benchmarks in public healthcare delivery.
