Porvorim: The Government of Goa, in collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), convened the first State Level Committee on Standardization (SLCS) meeting at Porvorim, aimed at strengthening the quality and standards framework in the state.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary Dr. V. Candavelou, IAS, and focused on the integration of standards into state-level policies, promoting the use of ISI-marked products, and enhancing Goa’s quality ecosystem.
Key officials present included Shri Sanjit Rodrigues, IAS, Secretary, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Government of Goa; Shri Praveen Khanna, Deputy Director General, BIS Southern Regional Office; Shri G. Venkatanarayanan, Director, Southern Regional Office; and Shri P. N. Murali, Director & Head, BIS Hubli Branch Office. Dipak Bandekar, Director of Information and Publicity, and other committee members were also in attendance.
Discussions centred around the importance of standardization in public procurement, consumer safety, and infrastructure development. Officials emphasized the need for active state-level engagement with BIS to ensure quality compliance across sectors.
The initiative marks a key step in Goa’s commitment to aligning with national quality benchmarks and fostering a culture of standardization for consumer protection and sustainable development.
