PANAJI: The Government of Goa, through the Gomantak Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya and Research Centre (GAMRC), organised a countdown programme for International Day of Yoga 2026 at Miramar Beach on Tuesday as part of efforts to promote preventive healthcare and wellness.
The event was held in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga under the nationwide “100 Days, 100 Cities, 100 Organisations” initiative. The programme, conducted between 7 am and 9 am, witnessed participation from students, healthcare professionals and members of the public.
The session began with the Common Yoga Protocol, followed by awareness activities and cultural presentations, including Natya Yoga and classical dance, highlighting the role of yoga in maintaining a balanced lifestyle.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sneha Bhagwat said that changing food habits and fast-paced lifestyles have made yoga increasingly relevant for maintaining overall health and well-being.
Officials said the initiative reflects the government’s focus on preventive healthcare and the promotion of wellness practices. Such programmes are also aimed at strengthening the integration of yoga and traditional systems of medicine into daily life.
Among those present were Dr Sneha Bhagwat, President of the Goa Council of Ayurveda and Other Allied Indian Systems of Medicine, yoga instructor Mohan Joshi and AYUSH Medical Officer Dr Mahesh Velekar. Faculty members, staff and students from Goa College of Physiotherapy, Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences and GAMRC, Shiroda, also participated.
