Panaji: The National Judo Black Belt Camp and NDIC Examination (West Zone) kicked off at the Peddem Sports Complex in Mapusa with an inspiring inauguration ceremony. The event was honored by the presence of Dr. Ajay Gaude, Executive Director of the Sports Authority of Goa, who served as the Chief Guest.
The camp also welcomed several senior coaches and dignitaries, including Dronacharya Awardee Jiwan Sharma, along with Shailesh Tilak, Satish Pahade, Virender Vashist, and Rajan C.S.
A total of 110 participants from across India gathered to enhance their technical skills and undergo performance assessments under expert guidance.
Dr. Ajay Gaude praised the sport of Judo for instilling discipline and strong character in athletes, describing it as “one of the most disciplined sports” he personally admires. He encouraged Goan judokas to push their limits and compete with the nation’s best. Dr. Gaude also shared details about the upcoming Khelo Goa Scheme, aimed at boosting the state’s sports ecosystem.
Jiwan Sharma highlighted Judo’s global significance, noting its inclusion in the Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. He celebrated India’s growing achievements in the sport, especially recognizing Linthoi Chanambam, the first Indian judoka to win a world-level bronze medal a historic feat for the country.
The inauguration was compered by Leena Porob. The Goa Judo Association President, Girish Pednekar, welcomed the attendees, while General Secretary Kripesh Vengurlekar delivered the vote of thanks.
