A day after the State hit the highest 170 positive cases in the State, the government has finally decided to go for a complete three-day lockdown from Friday July 17 to Sunday July 19.
Besides this, the government has also decided to impose Janta curfew everyday from 8 pm to 6 pm everyday.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant made this announcement at the post Cabinet press conference.
“The State will go under three-day complete lockdown from coming Friday to Sunday except essential services. The lockdown will begin from Thursday 8 pm Thursday and finish on Monday 6 am,” Sawant said.
He said the State cabinet discussed the COVID situation and realised that the Goa has highest testing rate in India and hence there are more positives.
Sawant said the decision had to be taken as the people were not taking guidelines and precautions seriously of mask and social distancing
“We need more strictness. People have to be disciplined and norms need to be followed. We hear everyday parties have started after unlocking began,” he stated.
Hence, he said the government has also decided that from tonight 8 pm to 6 am there will be complete shutdown or Janta curfew till August 10.
“Except essential services, second and third shift employees in industries will be allowed,” he said.
He said that police will take strict action against violators.
”Violators will be jailed,” he said adding there should not be anyone on the road except medical emergencies Till 10th of August.
He said when 18 deaths happened people should have been alerted and should have been self disciplined but that isn’t happening.
