PANAJI: On the sideline of the Cabinet approval of a Taxi App for Goa-based taxi drivers, BJP Spokesperson Savio Rodrigues supporting the decision and resolve of the Goa government, expressed, “I do not see any harm in having App-based taxis in Goa, especially from the airports. If some local taxi drivers do not want to be a part of App-based taxi service providers, they need not offer their services from the airport or other parts of Goa. Locals and tourists who prefer App-Based taxi services will use them.”
Rodrigues further added, “Goa is a growing market for taxi operators. The market will cater to passengers from the local community and tourists. There is a space for both App-based taxi services and Non-App-Based taxi services. The choice of the service is dependent on the passenger using the taxi service.”
We must adopt a dual model of App-based and Non-App-Based. The most important issue is the transparency of price, transaction and service, and convenience of the passengers, Rodrigues further elucidated. “While I empathise with certain points raised by the taxi drivers, they must come out of their fears and look at the potential of Goa and the opportunities that lie ahead for them as taxi-service providers; an App-based taxi will only enhance their business. And if they do not want to be a part of an App-Based Taxi Service, they can still continue to do their business under the guidelines established by the Goa government.”
