PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that Goa is maintaining 60-65% of greenery even thought our area is 3702 sq kms.
CM Sawant was addressing the gathering after launching the Book ‘Wild Goa: A Symphony in Feathers’ authored by Parag Rangnekar.
“Even though Goa is of 3702 sq kms we are maintaining almost 60 to 65% of greenery; green cover & development should be balanced; govt will protect environment but we also need support of Goans to maintain & protect greenery; Goa is home to 36 bird species,” said Sawant
He further said that Goa is home to over 36 bird species, including migratory ones; efforts underway to declare eco-sensitive areas and protect the environment.
“We are committed to sustainable development. We have been able to maintain green cover in the state while carrying out development of the state,” he added
CM also said that he was happy to convey that the PMO has taken note of Rangnekar’s work. This book displays the extent of Bird species existing in Goa and I appeal everyone to read it.
