PANAJI: Goa has been placed under a Yellow alert until May 17, as the southwest monsoon advances into parts of the South Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms, for the state and the Konkan region until May 17.
In a statement, the IMD confirmed that the southwest monsoon has reached parts of the south Bay of Bengal, south Andaman Sea, Nicobar Islands, and some areas of the north Andaman Sea by Tuesday.
The IMD further warned that isolated areas across Goa, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathawada are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds between 30-50 kmph from May 13 to May 17.
Over the past 24 hours, several areas in Goa have already witnessed pre-monsoon showers, along with thunderstorms and lightning.
