Ahead of Lok Sabha elections, Goa and Karnataka take decisive steps to bolster border security, curbing illicit activities for a fair vote.

PANAJI: The office of the Collector, District Election office North in view of the upcoming General Elections to Lok Sabha, 2024 and in compliance to the Election Commission of India, an interstate border meeting was convened by Dr. Sneha S Gitte, I.A.S, Collector & DEO, North Goa District and Shri Nitesh Patil, IAS, DEO & DM, Belgavi District on March 4, 2024 in the Conference Hall, Collectorate North to discuss on interstate border issues, security arrangements and sealing of borders and issues related to seizures.
The Meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police North Goa, Superintendent of Police, Belgaum, Chief Executive Officer, Belgaum, Joint Commissioner GST, Superintendent of Excise Belgaum and Belgavi, Deputy Commissioner of Excise, North Chikodi, Additional Collectors of North Goa SDPO, Pernem DYSP HQ, North Goa, Dy. Collectors of North Goa, Inspector of Excise of Kankur Checkpost, State Tax Officers and Police Inspectors of Borders of Goa and Karnataka.
The authorities deliberated on strengthening border and shared insights and strategies regarding recent seizures of liquor, freebies, and money, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and proactive enforcement measures and outlined measures to clamp down on the illegal transportation of liquor, including intensified patrolling; intelligence-sharing mechanisms and collaborative enforcement actions underscored the commitment of both Goa and Karnataka. The meeting concluded with a consensus on the importance of sustained cooperation and coordinated efforts to ensure free and fair election as informed by the Department of Information and Publicity.
