DONAPAULA: Goa is taking a strategic step to combine environmental sustainability, rural livelihoods, and tourism with the launch of its first-ever National Coconut Conclave at the International Centre, Dona Paula. The event, organised by Gomantak in partnership with the Government of Goa, brought together farmers, researchers, and policymakers to discuss how coconut cultivation can serve as a cornerstone of climate-resilient agriculture.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, “When we nurture our Maad, we nurture Goa. Coconut farming is not only a source of income but also an environmental and cultural asset. By supporting our farmers with technology, knowledge, and innovation, we can make agriculture more sustainable while enhancing the beauty and tourism potential of our state.”
The conclave focused on critical issues including climate adaptation, soil health, crop protection, and rejuvenation of old plantations. Several Goan farmers were felicitated for pioneering sustainable and innovative farming practices, setting examples for others to follow.
Experts stressed that promoting coconut cultivation can help Goa combat soil degradation, strengthen rural economies, and improve scenic landscapes that attract tourists. The conclave reflects the state government’s broader vision of blending tradition with modern solutions to ensure inclusive, eco-friendly growth across Goa.
