PANAJI: Goa celebrated Liberation Day with the Governor and Chief Minister extending warm greetings to citizens and calling upon them to uphold the ideals of freedom, unity and progress while working towards a sustainable and self-reliant future.
In his Liberation Day message, the Governor highlighted Goa’s steady growth across key sectors and stressed the need to balance development with environmental responsibility. He said tourism remains one of the State’s strongest growth pillars, with 2025 recording a notable increase in both domestic and international tourist arrivals. Emphasising inclusive growth, the Governor said initiatives such as Goa Beyond Beaches are helping promote heritage, hinterland, eco-tourism, village tourism and wellness circuits.
The Governor also referred to Goa’s long-term vision for environmental sustainability, noting that the recently unveiled Clean Energy Roadmap 2050 aims to create a green and climate-resilient future through renewable energy adoption, solar rooftops, energy-positive villages and solar-powered healthcare facilities. He said these efforts reflect the State’s commitment to safeguarding its natural heritage while progressing on the development front.
Highlighting achievements in sports, the Governor praised young Goan athletes for bringing laurels to the State in various disciplines. On the solemn occasion, he paid tribute to the freedom fighters and saluted the soldiers who carried out Operation Vijay, urging citizens to renew their commitment to justice, unity and national ideals.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, in his Liberation Day greetings, paid homage to the brave freedom fighters whose sacrifices led to Goa’s liberation. He described the day as both a reminder of the historic struggle for freedom and a celebration of Goa’s rich culture, resilient people and enduring spirit.
Calling for collective participation in nation-building, the Chief Minister appealed to citizens to work together to make Goa stronger, sustainable and self-reliant. Highlighting the Swayampurna Goa initiative, he encouraged people to actively participate in programmes aimed at economic empowerment, local entrepreneurship, skill development and community-led growth.
Stressing that progress can be achieved only through shared responsibility, the Chief Minister urged citizens to contribute to the development of villages and communities, and to strengthen the vision of a self-reliant Goa. He concluded by wishing all Goans a joyful and proud Goa Liberation Day.
